THE Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development hopes that the deployment of teachers under the Special Teacher Recruitment Sarawak, will be finalised before the end of this year.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said Sarawak has already voiced its views to the Education Service Commission (SPP) to prioritise the recruitment of teachers who are from the state.
“We cannot say that the SPP is being ‘stubborn’, but we have shared our views and aspirations. We hope they will comply.
“Of course, in all these things, you cannot expect everything to be 100 per cent. But looking at the situation, it depends on the types of teachers we need for Sarawak students.
“However, the SPP has agreed to listen to our concerns, and I hope everything goes well,” he told a press conference after delivering his ministerial winding-up speech today.
Asked if it has yet to be confirmed that all teachers under the Special Teacher Recruitment Sarawak to be recruited will be from the state, Sagah responded:
“Not yet. So far, I think the offer letters for teacher candidates have yet to be issued,” he said.
Earlier, when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech, Sagah said since 2017, Sarawak has been facing a shortage of 2,000 to 3,000 teachers annually.
“My ministry has pushed for a special recruitment drive through persistent negotiations with SPP, Ministry of Education (o to fill 1,733 teachers post across Sarawak is the result of our collaborations,” he said.
He added the recruitment exercise throughout the state, attracted strong interest, with over 15,000 applicants.
“A total of 2,010 potential candidates were shortlisted for final interviews, which were held in Kuching, Sibu, and Miri.
“I have conveyed to SPP our commitment to prioritise Sarawakian candidates, to ensure continuity and sustainability,” he said.
