THE transfer of MASwings’ ownership from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to the Sarawak government will take six to nine months, subject to certain conditions, upon the signing of the Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA).
Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the state government and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of MASWings, have reached a heads of terms agreement, which outlines that the SPA be signed by Dec 31.
“During the transition, MASwings will continue operating Rural Air Services (RAS) while securing necessary licences and approvals from the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, MAVCOM, and CAAM to expand internationally,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech today.
Lee further said post-acquisition, the Sarawak government aims to position MASwings as a regional carrier within a four to seven hour flight range, establishing Sarawak as a gateway for regional air travel.
“This aligns with Sarawak’s vision to enhance its profile as an international destination and attract foreign investment, with improved connectivity playing a key role in these efforts,” he said.
