KUCHING: Sarawak is sending six teams to compete in the 12th National Dragon and Lion Dance Championship 2024 in Perak from Nov 22 to 24.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressed optimism about the state’s chances.

“We hope they can bring a lot of medals for Sarawak. This aligns with our goal of developing Sarawak’s sports and cultural heritage. We aim for them to not only win medals but also clinch the overall championship,” he told reporters during a flag-handing ceremony at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) building today (Nov 18).

Meanwhile, Kuching Division Chinese Martial Arts Association President Chester Lim Hian Thoong revealed that the teams will participate in four events: Luminous Dragon Dance, Southern Lion Traditional, High Pole Southern Lion Dance and Northern Lion Dance.

“This is our strongest team ever sent to the National Championship,” he said.
