SARAWAK has hit its target of four million tourists arrival this year, said Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He said as of Nov 15, the number of tourists to the state showed 4.08 million visitors.
“The various international events and national level tourism events, conventions, conferences and meetings have resulted in this sharp growth,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech today.
Abdul Karim added for the first 10 months of this year, Sarawak recorded 3.98 million
visitors, an increase of 25.03 per cent over the same period of 3.18 million in 2023.
“This has generated an estimated RM10.27 billion from the January until October in tourism receipts, an increase of 27.26 per cent compared to RM8.07 billion in tourism receipts for 2023,” he said.
With Sarawak’s tourism sector forecasting full recovery by 2025, the ministry will strive to achieve five million visitors next year as announced by the Premier during the 2025 Budget speech, generating RM12.73 billion in tourism receipts, he said.
“The tourism sector growth so far is in line with most of the goals outlined in the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030),” added Abdul Karim.
