Teenage pregnancy cases among students in Sarawak have seen a significant decline, said Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
The number of cases has dropped from 142 in 2016 to 63 last year, a trend that has encouraged the Ministry and its partners in the One Stop Teenage Pregnancy Committee (OSTPC) to intensify their efforts.
“This downward trend has motivated the Ministry and its strategic partners in OSTPC to continue implementing the Sexual Education Advocacy Awareness Programme (KAPS) in secondary schools across Sarawak,” Fatimah said during her ministerial winding-up speech today (Nov 19).
To further address the issue, the Ministry, through divisional-level OSTPC governance, has organised KAPS sessions in targeted national secondary schools statewide.
Since 2016, a total of 75 KAPS sessions have been conducted, reaching 15,279 school students.
