KUCHING: Members of the public, including State Legislative Assembly (DUN) staff, university students, and media personnel, were treated to a fruit-eating fiesta on the final day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

A variety of local fruits, including durian, dabai, cempedak, watermelon, and more, were prepared as part of a tasting and eating session.

The event was organised in conjunction with the Sarawak Department of Agriculture (DOA) 100th anniversary celebration.

After delivering his ministerial winding-up speech, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg launched the “Kempen Makan Buah-buahan Tempatan” (Eat Local Fruits Campaign) at the entrance area of the DUN Complex.

For the records, established in 1924, the Sarawak Department of Agriculture initially focused on rubber and pepper cultivation before transitioning in the 1950s to emphasize extension services, training, and new technology to boost agricultural productivity and household incomes.

The department remains committed to its vision of creating a “Sustainable Agro Community” and its mission to “Increase Agro Community Through Sustainable Agricultural Practices,” playing a pivotal role in research, product development, and agricultural marketing.
