KOTA SAMARAHAN: Residents in the area will soon have easier access to health information, with the Wellness Hub Kota Samarahan set to open in April next year.
Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang said construction of the building is well underway.
“This is the first such centre in Sarawak, and I encourage the community to make it their go-to place for health advice and information.
“Even though it won’t be fully operational until April 2025, we’ve already started programmes and activities to raise awareness about health issues,” said Rubiah, who is also Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development at the opening ceremony of the Wellness Hub Kota Samarahan 2024 Open Day at Tasik Desa Ilmu today (Nov 23).
The Wellness Hub Kota Samarahan is a one-stop community centre that provides health promotion services to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
“Health isn’t just about physical well-being. Mental health is equally important, and we need to encourage the community to lead a healthy lifestyle,” she said.
“This aligns with the National Health Agenda (ANMS), which aims to prevent the three main diseases (heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension) as well as obesity.”
This event, which ran from 6 am to 2 pm, featured a variety of activities to promote a healthy lifestyle.
These included aerobics, an amazing race, sports games, a fun walk, plogging, and Wellness On Wheel (WOW) services.
Over 300 people, including students from the Tun Abdul Razak Campus of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) and staff from local agencies, participated in the fun walk around the lake.
Also present were Samarahan District Health Officer Dr Azizah Azhar, Senior Assistant Director of the Health Promotion Branch at the Sarawak Health Department Lilis Suriani Razali and other representatives.
