KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Tupong has expressed full support for Sarawak’s efforts to defend its rights over oil and gas resources, including its continental shelf.
Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the branch also advocates for policies and existing laws, such as the Oil Mining Ordinance 1958 and the Gas Distribution Ordinance 2016 to be strengthened to safeguard Sarawak’s economic interests and sovereignty.
“Additionally, we support Petros’ (Petroleum Sarawak Berhad) role in developing sustainable gas infrastructure and regulating oil and gas activities both onshore and on the continental shelf.
“We also encourage the Sarawak Gas Roadmap as a key agenda for the state’s economic development,” he told the media after chairing PBB Tupong’s triennial general meeting at Hikmah Exchange Convention Centre here yesterday.
Fazzrudin added that meeting also touched on addressing social challenges, particularly online gambling.
He said while the police have been actively conducting operations, online gambling outlets remain widespread.
“There may be loopholes in existing laws that need to be addressed and strengthened to tackle this issue effectively,” he said.
He also outlined that the motions discussed during the meeting focused on three main areas: political resolutions, Sarawak’s economic development, and the development of the Tupong constituency focusing on infrastructure and social issues.
On political resolutions, Fazzrudin said PBB Tupong fully supports the positions of key leaders to remain uncontested: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as PBB President; Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as Deputy Presidents; and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom as Senior Vice Presidents.
“I am proud of the unity among PBB members in Tupong. When nominations were opened, all positions were uncontested,” he said.
