KUALA LUMPUR: 2024 World Junior Badminton Championships silver medallist Low Zi Yu claimed her third consecutive Allianz Junior Badminton Championship (AJBC) Grand Finals title by winning the Girls’ Singles Under-15 (U-15) title at Stadium Juara, Bukit Kiara today (Nov 24).

The 14-year-old from Johor triumphed in just 28 minutes, defeating Teoh Sue Mei from Kuala Lumpur 21-10, 21-17.

“I am thrilled to win this tournament for the third time. I think the competition format is excellent as it helps produce athletes to represent the country on the international stage,” Zi Yu told reporters.

Having already won the Girls’ Singles U-13 title in 2022 and 2023, Zi Yu now looks ahead to 2025, aiming to challenge herself in U-18 and U-21 tournaments.

Other champions included Putera Raees Rafeal Sulaiman (Boys’ Singles U-13), Cheong Kai Sheng (Boys’ Singles U-15), and Ng Cia Tin-Putra Assolihin Mohamad Hamim (Boys’ Doubles U-13). Siti Nur Aminah Abdullah won the Girls’ Singles U-13, and A. Baavanya-Nur Aina Maisarah Muhammad Hatta clinched the Girls’ Doubles U-15.

Each singles winner received RM1,000, and doubles winners earned RM1,200 per pair. Allianz Malaysia also awarded RM2,000 grants to champions to support their training and competition costs. – BERNAMA
