SIBU: Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee will officiate the soft launch of the newly rebuilt Sungai Merah Market tommorow (Nov 26).
The newly completed market features nine food stalls, 18 dry market stalls, and five wet market stalls. It also includes trading spaces for seasonal fruit sellers.
It was built on the same site as the previous seven-decade-old premises, which was demolished at the end of 2022.
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting, recently shared his experience at the Sungai Merah Market which began operations last Friday (Nov 22).
Ting said that he had visited the market together with his family, friends, and SMC councillors.
“The food court was busy, and the food maintained the traditional quality that the original five stalls continue to serve,” he said in a recent Facebook post.
Ting added that his overall experience at the two-storey market, which cost RM8.5 million, was pleasant.
