SARATOK: Upgrades to the new surau in Kampung Pagan are continuing with the government seeing to its full completion in phases.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said this is because it involves a huge expense.
“The plan to build a surau in Kampung Pagan began in June 2020 and construction began in January 2022.
“Around May last year, the next phase was approved under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
“This year, the next phase of the upgrading project will once again continue.
“What this means is that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, through the annual RTP allocation, is committed to providing for a major project, even though it is done in phases,” he said.
Mohamad said he is committed to the needs of the people, hence his asking the state government to consider increasing the RTP funds to elected representatives every year.
“This is relevant like the implementation of the Kampung Pagan surau project. If we had a bigger allocation, perhaps the construction time could be shortened,” he said.
