KUCHING: Four persons reportedly missing in Bako National Park near here last Monday have been found safe and well.

A search and rescue (SAR) team, comprising 40 people from various agencies, including 15 Kampung Bako folk, successfully rescued them.

Members of the SAR team used individual mercy boats to get to the location.

The SAR teams were divided into two teams; the first team headed towards Tanjung Rhu and the other, to Tajo.

On arriving at their respective destination, they walked through jungle tracks towards the mountain in search of the missing persons.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) central operations room said it received a distress call at about 3.50pm on Feb 4.

The missing persons, including two women, are Chinese nationals.

Operations commander Mosli Salim said all four were found by the first rescue team at 6.35pm on the same day.

They were brought down to the beach area and later to the Bako National Park Centre before being ferried by boat to Kampung Bako jetty.

As at press time, only two of the missing persons were identified.

They are Wu Gang and Li Wan Qi while the other two were not registered with the Forestry Office.

The SAR operations officially ended at 4.30pm.
