KUCHING: A total of 20 primary schools from Sarawak received sports equipment from Milo during the presentation ceremony held at SK Bengoh, yesterday.

These schools, out of 184 primary schools across the nation, were selected for their support to the ‘Sokong Demi Sukan’ campaign by Milo.

Each school received complete sets of quality sports equipment for either football, netball, badminton, basketball or track and field valued approximately at RM8,000 per set.

Among the recipients included SK Melaban, SK Kampung Baru, SK Beluru Sentral Miri, SK Tebelu and SK Bengoh.

The campaign, held between August and September 2016, received immense public support with purchases of Milo packs, contributing towards the continuous effort of Milo in driving grassroots sports development.

“These stories of growth through true grit are the reason why we proudly advocate for sports for over 60 years, and why we continue to partner with the Ministry of Education (MOE) for the MSSM-Milo games and create such programmes,” she said.

“What give greater meaning to this initiative is that we were able to garner such outstanding support from fellow Malaysians as well as the MOE which led to the huge success of ‘Sokong Demi Sukan.

“It is knowing that we all share the same belief and drive to ultimately make Malaysia a better nation, and knowing that it can be done through grassroots sports development,” she added.

Meanwhile, SK Bengoh headmaster, Muhammad Aliff Abdullah said the collaboration between Milo and State Education Department had resulted in an outstanding effort to drive grassroots sports development.

“The students at our school were thrilled to receive the new sports equipment from Milo at the start of the new school year.

“We believe the new equipment will enable them to sharpen and develop their skills to compete at the MSSM-Milo games and beyond,” said Aliff.

“The campaign is opening up opportunities for students who show great potential in sports at a young age. We want to give them the best possible chances of maximising their potential. This can only move us all closer to greater success and a brighter future for Malaysia as a sporting nation,” he added.

The event at SK Bengoh followed Milo prior ceremony held in SK Lesong Batu, Alor Gajah, Melaka early this year.
