KUCHING: Diamond rings, heart-adorned cards, boxes of chocolate, bouquets of red roses and teddy bears wearing T-shirts emblazoned with cutesy messages are among some of the romantic gestures capable of wooing women’s hearts.

And just in time, roadside vendors selling flowers have popped up around the city centre yesterday in Jalan Padungan.

A vendor worker, who wished to be identified only as Agata, said although they just started selling flowers yesterday morning, sales have been encouraging.

“We had to wait for fresh flowers from our suppliers,” she said.

Agata also mentioned that the price range is reasonable, from RM70 to RM150.

Despite the gloomy day in the evening, another vendor who sells flowers in front of Jalan Chan Bee Kiew, Wei Jie, disclosed that the best time to grab customers’ attention is during peak hours.

“The high traffic along this road could grab their attention to drop by our stalls, but not in the morning.”

Meanwhile, a flower shop in town offered customers with a new decorative Valentine’s Day gifts.

The worker, Shan, 21, said that the decoration uses soaps which are carved into flowers.

“Depending on customer’s request, the soaps can be carved into other shapes and colours too,” she said.

Shan also recommended a special arrangement of flower bouquet with sparkling lights.

“The price of these special bouquets depends on the size. Huge bouquets may cost up to RM500. Working men prefer huge and special custom-made bouquets,” she added.

Valentine’s Day gifts have been associated with hearts and flowers. With the belief that the heart is the power source of memories and emotions, people value the heart shape as a symbol that links to deep emotions.
