SEMENYIH: More job opportunities in various fields and avoiding the need to migrate elsewhere for employment are among the aspirations of the young people in Semenyih.

The penghulu for the Mukim of Semenyih, Muhamad Azaazrin Alias, said the employment opportunities should be boosted so that the targeted group does not have to migrate elsewhere to find jobs.

“Youths in the area have voiced their desire for more job opportunities to be created here. If it is possible to have more jobs, they (the young people) want to remain here,” he told Bernama.

A check by Bernama found that the biggest challenge to keeping the youths in Semenyih is more job opportunities and competitive salary as found in nearby areas such as Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

Based on the present situation, Semenyih has become the location of choice to live in but, in terms of employment, many choose to work in the cities, including Kuala Lumpur, although they need to travel quite a distance.

The chairman of Pertubuhan Ikatan Semenyih Bersatu, Yusnizam Mansur, said employment opportunities in fields related to the natural environment of Semenyih, especially the agriculture, plantation and tourism sectors, could be an attraction for the local people.

He said these sectors should be explored by the youths with the encouragement and assistance of the relevant authorities.

“I think agriculture is a sector that has to be empowered to provide more job opportunities. This sector has more potential here in comparison to the manufacturing sector. The agricultural scope is extensive and many young people here are keen to be engaged in the sector. I hope there is a chance for Semenyih folk to work on it,” he said.

Tourism is another sector that offered job opportunities for the locals, he added.

“Recreational facilities, such as fishing ponds, the hot spring  pond in Sungai Lalang and natural resources should be exploited for job opportunities,” he said.

An entrepreneur engaged in animal husbandry and tourism in Sungai Lalang, Hanim Raduan, 50, felt that job opportunities were always available as long as the people of Semenyih, especially the youths, were wise enough to seek out and exploit opportunities.

“There are many factories here, and the opportunities are there, so  long as the youngsters are diligent and put in some effort. They should not wait for the opportunities to emerge when they are the ones who have to determine their future,” he said.

Burger stall trader Alif Shohairin, 25, said he was not worried about the job opportunities in Semenyih because one could benefit from the many developments in Semenyih and the nearby developing areas. –Bernama
