KUCHING: Newly completed RM8-million Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC) in Bau near here will open its door to the public the latest by this coming April 1.

“The construction has been completed and now we are actually waiting for the final touches, including furnishing and landscaping job to be finished,” said its chairman Datuk Peter Minos.

The project, which is fully funded by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, is recognised by Unesco as the first-of-its kind in Borneo to be built on a hilltop.

Yesterday, a group of 20 Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) senior officials went up to have a first-hand look at the development.

Led by Kuching North mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahab Abang Julai, they were received on arrival by Minos himself.

“They came to see for themselves the development of the BBHC and also to appreciate nature and culture,” said Minos.

BBHC is about 1,000 feet above sea level on Bung Bratak (literally Bratak Hill) at Bau-Lundu Road. The site was once a Bidayuh settlement of seven longhouses.

During the visit creepers and belian seedlings donated by DBKU were presented to the centre.

Minos said plans were actively being carried out to transform BBHC into the best mountain-top historical ecotourism centre in Borneo.

“Visitors and tourists will enjoy all that is basic and natural at Bung Bratak which includes jungle trails, waterfall, spring water, mountain scenery, fresh air, primary jungle and many more,” he said.
