KUCHING: Mukah emerged champions of the MSS Under 12 Hockey Championship after they defeated Betong 1-0 in the final at Sarawak Hockey Stadium here yesterday.
In the semifinal, Mukah beat defending champions, Sibu 2-0 in a penalty shootout after they ended in a scoreless draw while Betong beat Serian 1-0 in the other semifinal.
A total of eight teams took part in the championship and divided into two groups.
Group A comprised Serian, Kuching, Bintulu and Mukah while Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Samarahan were in group B Kumpulan B.
Mukah assistant manager, Hirman Hossen said this was their first time to win the title in the. category.
He thanked the coaches and players for their hard work to achieve the success
“The absence of a standard hockey field and lack of funding in Mukah did not stop our determination to win the title and it’s really worth the management and coaches effort to find sponsorship for the players,” he said.
Meanwhile, the championship is also an avenue to find talents for Sarawak to compete in the national championship in Melaka end of March.
