KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Faculty of Economics and Business of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the university here yesterday.

The MoU aims to establish a basis upon which both parties may explore areas for cooperation and collaboration such as research, academic and staff engagement.

This includes carrying out data analysis and investigations, as well as sharing their results and findings through presentations in seminars, workshops, conferences and scientific publications including journals, working papers and research findings.

Other than that, the collaboration also comprises of developing and evaluating the course curriculum at the Malaysian Statistical Training Institute (ILSM) and the curriculum of any relevant faculty at Unimas and venturing into other cooperations related to research and knowledge sharing in the field of statistics, supply, storage and exchange of information.

Unimas currently houses 17,000 students which comprises of 14,000 undergraduates, 2,000 postgraduates and 1,000 foundation programme students.

Unimas was ranked as one of the best universities in the world, based on the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2019, making its way as one of the 10 best universities in Malaysia.

Overall, Unimas offers 70 academic programmes ranging from applied and creative arts, cognitive sciences and human development, computer science and information technology, economics and business, medicine and health sciences, resource science and technology as well as social sciences.

Among those present were Unimas vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, Faculty of Economics and Business dean Associate Prof Michael Tinggi, DOSM chief statistician Datuk Sri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin and DOSM Sarawak director Roslawati Yahya.
