KUCHING: For as long as Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) breaths, the party will continue its effort to provide a better living for the people of Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, in stressing this yesterday, said GPS’ main focus was to continue developing the state.
“Unlike some parties in Semenanjung Malaysia, all they do is quarrel and jostle for the Prime Minister’s post. They ‘gohet’ (local colloquial for go ahead) (with quarrelling and jostling) only… and it never stops until today,” he said in his speech before the launch of the Bako Bridge, yesterday.
On the other hand, he said GPS was different in that the coalition was united and only ‘gohet’ with coming up with plans on how to further help the people.
“If Pakatan Harapan (PH) does not want to provide funds for any of the infrastructure projects in Sarawak, the state government will take over,” he stressed.
He said he went by the advice of the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem (Tok Nan) to look after Sarawak.
He said for that GPS would strive to safeguard Sarawak in all areas be it politics, economics or culture.
He said his government is giving priority to safeguarding Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in Malaysia Agreement 1963.
In maintaining the state’s peace, Abang Johari said that was the reason why Umno was not welcomed to spread it wings in Sarawak.
“Some had even claimed that I’m an Umno follower, but today who have welcomed the party from Semenanjung Malaysia to Sarawak?” he asked.
Meanwhile, Santubong MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan JunaidiTuanku Jaafar urged the people in Bako to render their fullest cooperation to Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Hipni in order to enjoy better infrastructure development.
“Supporting Hazland means supporting the chief minister in his duty to allow more development in Kampung Bako,” he said.
Wan Junadi also said with continuous support for GPS, more projects could be implemented to spur economic growth in the Land of Hornbills.
