SIBU: The 9th ‘Love Earth Day’ organised by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) received overwhelming response from the public as many took part in the activities held for two days.
Speaking at the launching of Love Earth Day at the ground floor of Wisma Sanyan here, SMC chairman, Datuk Tiong Thai King told the public on the importance of remembering not only the 3Rs but also the 5Rs to save the earth.
“The five environment conscious words are the three R words – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle for establishing a recycle-oriented society and two additional words-Reuse and Reform.
“In a nutshell, we must celebrate Earth Day by reminding ourselves to be kind to our planet and by keeping the planet green. It is amazing that something such as 5Rs we are taught as children can be a guiding principle that will successfully take us through life,” he said.
Tiong was also glad to note that many participants from various corporations, NGOs, schools and government departments have come forward to give their overwhelming support for the event.
He concluded his speech by calling on the people to work together to save planet Earth.
