KOTA SAMARAHAN: Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) hosted a Youngpreneurs Go (YPGO) Carnival at DeTAR Putra Hall, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) last weekend.
The objectives of the two-day carnival were to expose entrepreneurial knowledge and to enhance interest in entrepreneurship among the younger generation, especially university students.
A total of 70 sales booths and 20 exhibition booths were set up by government departments and agencies and firms at the carnival.
Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who officiated at the carnival on Saturday said the government has provided various platforms and opportunities for the younger generation to become entrepreneurs.
“We have also provided incubator centres all over Sarawak for those interested to become entrepreneurs to register with SSM,” he added.
Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK), Datuk Henry Sum Agong who also spoke said the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has announced a RM10 million grant for the 1 Student 1 Business Registration (1P1PP) Scheme.
“The grant allocated is to enable students to register their business with no fees. I hope students will utilise this opportunity,” he said.
To date, a total of 8,286 students comprising 4,767 female and 3,895 male students have registered under the scheme.
‘Zakat’ of RM30,000 from SSM was also presented to 100 needy Unimas students to lighten their burden.
Online celebrity entrepreneurs namely, Elfira Loy, Hisham Salleh, Aida Gadis Melayu and Fizo Omar also made a special appearance to enliven the carnival via a ‘sharing’ session.
Also present were Assistant Minister for Entrepreneurs Development, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, SSM Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Zahrah Abdul Wahab Fenner, Vice-Chancellor of Unimas, Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) of Unimas, Professor Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman.
