MIRI: The cops here have solved at least eight housebreaking cases with the arrest of two local men on Tuesday during an operation called “Ops Pintu”.
Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah, said the suspects were picked up at two separate locations during the 2.20pm-3pm raids.
When met during a Chinese New Year open house party at the city police headquarters (IPD) on Thursday, Lim said both suspects are in police custody to assist in probes into their cases.
The police also seized several housebreaking tools including a knife, seven shopping mall membership cards, a loudspeaker and two guitars.
“We also believed that the suspects were involved in breaking into a church recently,” he said.
When asked on Miri crime index for the period from January to February this year, Lim said it had decreased to 6 per cent.
On the open house gathering, Lim said nearly 100 police personnel of various ranks attended it.
“We hope it can forge closer ties among police personnel from various departments,” he said.
Earlier on, Lim and his wife Lee Giak Fung give out “angpow” to 100 children who attended the gathering with their parents.
Also present was Miri deputy police chief, Supt Sabri Zainol.
