Community Postmen to help improve services in Sarawak’s interiors

KUCHING: Pos Malaysia has implemented the Community Postmen programme to help improve the delivery of postal services in remote areas in Sarawak, said Postal Transformation Plan for Sabah and Sarawak (PTPSS) head Jurina Abdul Wahab.

She said thus far, 493 Community Postmen centres had already started their operations in both Sabah and Sarawak, and of the total, 263 were operating in Sarawak.

“Community postmen are selected from those who met the requirement set by Pos Malaysia and they receive monthly allowance of RM500 from the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM).

“These postmen are selected from the local community who are well-versed with the delivery area, such as village chiefs, village committee members, farmers and so on, who have valid driving licence and aged 60 and below,” she said at a media visit to the Kuching Mail Processing Centre here yesterday.

She said the community postmen programme was under the purview of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), with KKMM in collaboration with Pos Malaysia.

Earlier, Sarawak Pos Malaysia manager Bong Tung Hui said the community postmen programme had  started operations in 2010 and the Sibu was with highest number of such postmen as it has more interior areas to cover compared to other districts. – Bernama
