SIBU: There is money in honey pineapple farming and Emang Jana, 57, and his wife Lenok Saging, 49, can attest to that.
Every weekend, the couple can be seen selling the fruit at the Sunday Market here.

Met at 10am last Saturday, Emang and Lenok were smiling happily as they had sold off 65 of the 75 pineapples they brought for sale.
They were already expecting the last 10 pieces to be snapped up by passing customers in less than an hour’s time.
“On weekday, you can find us at the Pasar Tamu of the Central Market and we are at the Sunday Market every weekend,” said Emang when met today.
His sweet pineapples are priced between RM5 and RM10 each, depending on their sizes.
He said they had only started planting pineapples on their three-acre piece of land in Sungai Lenang near the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub about a year ago.
“Before that, we were planting vegetables, fruits and oil palm on a smaller scale,” he added.

“The fruit takes about a year to mature.
“I only apply fertiliser three times, about a month before harvesting,” he added.

Asked why his pineapples were sweet and juicy, Emang replied, “The secret is the quality fertiliser I use. A 50-kg bag costs RM100.”

So, look out for the couple if you want tasty pineapples.
