KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Plantation Berhad (SDP), the world’s largest producer of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO), yesterday launched a new entity named Sime Darby Oils (SDO) in the first ever rebranding of the company’s entire downstream division.
Officiated by Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok, the event which marked a significant milestone in SDP’s history, also unveiled SDO’s new corporate logo and corporate identity, its new domain name (www.simedarbyoils.com) along with its signature tagline ‘Realising Possibilities, Together’.
SDO aims to establish itself as a sustainable oils and fats multinational company that
is involved in the trading, manufacturing as well as sales and marketing of oils and
fats products, palm oil-based biodiesel, nutraceuticals and other derivatives.
The company has an extensive global network in eight countries – Malaysia, China, Netherlands, United Kingdom, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
“This is an exciting time for us as it marks a strategic milestone in the future direction of our company.
“Our focus towards offering sustainably produced differentiated products and derivatives is now represented by a new single entity that encompasses our entire downstream business,” said
Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Bakke Salleh, SDP’s executive deputy chairman and managing
director.
“Sime Darby Oils will allow us to continue meeting the evolving global demands and extend our reach to serve new customers.”
Speaking at the launch, Mohd Haris Mohd Arshad, SDP’s chief operating officer, downstream, said the introduction of Sime Darby Oils demonstrates the company’s aspiration to be the world’s best partner in enabling sustainable living with top-in-class oils and fats, now and into the future.
“Our aim is to occupy a sustainable, quality, integrated and innovative position by reinforcing trust as well as focusing on human lives,” said Mohd Haris.
“This objective is further reinforced with Sime Darby Oils’ new tagline, ‘Realising Possibilities, Together’.
“It signifies that we are focused on achieving quality excellence and becoming a trusted partner to all our customers by committing to delivering innovative and future-focused solutions, as well as being a leader in developing and promoting sustainable practices,” he added.
“Our new identity is innovative, modern, and professional — words we would use to describe not only our image, but also the solutions we provide to companies and our clients.
“We have retained ‘Sime Darby’ from our parent company as we embrace our incredible heritage and keep our brand relevant for generations to come.
“The addition of ‘Oils’ is to emphasise its importance – whether it is used as an ingredient in various processed foods or used in the pharmaceutical or cosmetic industry or as feedstock for biodiesel
production,” explained Mohd Haris.
Sime Darby Oils is poised to leverage on the huge potential of growth in the downstream sector of the Malaysian palm oil industry.
As the second largest producer and exporter of palm oil and palm oil- based products, Malaysia has
an important role to play in fulfilling the growing global demand for sustainably produced oils and fats.
The palm oil industry is already an important pillar of the country’s economy, contributing RM44.8 billion or 3.8 percent of the country’s GDP in 2017.
Malaysia also contributes 29 percent of the world’s palm oil production and 33 percent of world’s palm oil exports.
