MIRI: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Piasau Branch this afternoon set up three counters at the community hall of Kampung Pasir in Lutong here to help the villagers register for Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH).

Kampung Pasir has nearly 100 residents.

SUPP secretary general and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting was at the village during the SUPP Piasau community service.

Responding to a question on BSH, which is an initiative by the current federal government under Pakatan Harapan (PH), he said, “Regardless of who initiated the initiative, the rakyat’s welfare is our main priority.”

He added the state government would do its best to service the people.

“When it comes to helping people, we do not care whether they vote for us or not.”

Meanwhile, New Sarawak Tribune managed to talk to several villagers who thronged the community hall from 2pm to 4pm.

“I am grateful that SUPP has provided this service for those who have no cars or transport to go to the city centre to register for BSH,” said Tanjau Machau, 61.

Equally grateful were Achu Pampang in her 70s and Jennifer Chai Merikan, 33.

The trio were the past recipients of BR1M from the previous federal government.

Ting also revealed a road linking the village to the main entrance has been completed.

“The tar sealed road (500-metre long tarred road) has been completed last week and it involved cost at about RM250,000 under Rural Transformation Project (RTP)  for Piasau constituency,” said Ting.
