MIRI: One hundred and fifty one people registered for the International Women’s Day blood donation at Bintang Megamall here today.
However, only 107 people including 47 first timers successfully bled for the cause.
“We are very happy with the amount of blood collected,” said the event co-organising chairperson Srimuryati Cranfield who is also the president of Miri Petroleum Women Association (PWPM).
‘The number of first time donors is also very encouraging.
“We have been making strong efforts to get more new donors to participate,” she added.
She explained that existing donors were not allowed to donate blood anymore after 60 years old.
The blood donation drive was jointly organised by Miri Red Crescent (MRC) Blood Donor Recruitment Committee, Persatuan Wanita Petroleum Miri, Moving Communities and Curtin Leo Club.
The event was also supported by Miri Clan Chen Association.
The next MRC blood donation will be the Labour Day Blood Donation at Emart Riam on April 27 from 9.30am to 1pm.
