MIRI:  Firefighters in the northern region today battled at least eight large bushfires.

According to Miri Fire Zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, the fires  have charred 100 acres of land.

“The bushfires are not natural but ignited by irresponsible humans,” he revealed.

The  bushfires were at Jalan Pantai in Lutong; Tukau (Bakam); Lereng Bukit Kanada Hills; Kampung Usaha Jaya; Ocean Park’s Junction; Permyjaya (Miri Go-Kart); Ecopark residential area in Senadin;  bush area near Marudi mini stadium.

For the past few weeks, the northern region has been facing dry conditions with little rain.
