KUCHING: The deadly attacks against two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand remind all Malaysians to be vigilant at all times against any form of extremism,  warned Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing Jemut.

The minister added, “In the case of New Zealand, it was racial and religious prejudices by white supremacists against non-white or Muslims.”

He said the NZ security intelligence had, obviously, been side-tracked by the belief that white supremacists were not violent.

“Thus, none of them are in their watch list. Perhaps, they focus mainly on Islamist extremists! They failed to see the elephant in the room.

“Security intelligence, to be effective, must be religion-blind and race-blind! Dangers come from all corners. The ideology of white supremacists, as expounded by some world leaders, is the “oxygen” which allows this belief to live and spread! We must stop hate rhetoric!” said Masing.
