KUCHING: The Teen Cadet Club of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan St. Joseph is the winner of the Earth Day 2017 Exhibition Contest, held here, yesterday.

The first and second runner-ups are Kelab Pencinta Alam 3 and Kelab Pencinta Alam 2, also from SMK St. Joseph.

The contest, which was held in conjunction with the school’s Go Green Project, aimed at cultivating the spirit of cooperation to conserve and care for the environment among the school community; to increase sensitivity to environment issues; to foster ways of thinking and acting that are not detrimental to the environment; to embrace activities that prioritise environmental sustainability and encourage schools community to think creatively and innovatively.

Besides the exhibition contest, an Eco Green Impromptu Public Speaking Contest was also held and participated by seven schools namely SMK St. Joseph, SMK Agama Tun Ahmad Zaidi, SMK Green Road, SMK Santubong, SMK Batu Lintang, SMK Kuching High and SMK Bandar Kuching No. 1.

The contest was divided into five categories namely for students in Form One, Two, Three, Four and Five. The winner of the Form One category is Ho Chen Ning of SMK Kuching High, Patricia Gina Sagat of SMK Bandar Kuching No. 1 (Form Two), Joshua Jong Qian Rong of SMK Green Road (Form Three), Walter Jeremiah Law Shuo Wang of SMK Batu Lintang (Form Four) and Kuek Yong Qing of SMK Green Road (Form Five).
