KUCHING: Kuching police on Tuesday afternoon arrested three men who robbed a convenience store early this month.
The trio aged between 35 and 39 were arrested at Jalan Foochow at about 3.30pm.
Kuching police chief Supt Ismail Mahmood, who confirmed the arrest, said the trio, armed with sharp objects, had on March 2 gone to a convenience store at Jalan Bayor Bukit, Tabuan Jaya and made off with RM290 cash.
They also threatened to harm the cashier if he did not give in to their demands.
The three were brought to court yesterday morning for remand proceedings under section 117 of the Police Act and ordered to be detained for seven days.
All three had past records of violent crimes and drugs usage. They will be charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code and, if convicted, could be jailed up to 20 years or whipped.
Ismail urged the community to work together with the police to fight crimes. He said all levels of community needed to provide information on any suspicious character.
They can reach the police at the hotline 082244444 or by contacting the nearest police station.
