KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) member Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has praised the chief minister for giving his assurance that “termites” within the GPS house will be dealt with.
“That’s the way forward for GPS. We need a leader who does not take any nonsense from anyone,” PRS Women chief Dato Sri Doris Brodie said in a press statement.
“We take our hats off to (Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi) Abang Johari (Tun Openg) for sharing his political journey.
“It is a valuable lesson to all politicians and members of any political party – loyalty to the party, putting the party’s interest above personal interest.
“A true leader and one worthy of respect must be above self. Politicians come and go but our struggle must continue, with GPS,” she said.
As GPS was a coalition still in its infancy, she said Abang Johari was spot on in setting the tone right from the start.
“Any assault on any of the partners in GPS is an attack on GPS and such an attack could impair the strength and unity in GPS.
“The spirit of ‘you touch one, you touch all’ in GPS is very much upheld. We stand together to ensure no weakling in our group,” added Doris.
She stressed that a weakened GPS was not well-placed to serve Sarawakians let alone champion Sarawak rights.
“Termites are always a menace to society hence the sooner they are dealt with, the better it would be for GPS as we can then focus on serving
Sarawakians to the best of our abilities,” she reiterated.
PRS Women deputy chief Roseline Neging commended the chief minister for saying that one’s loyalty should not be to a person but to the cause.
“This is so true. Therefore, for Parti Sarawak Bersatu to pledge allegiance to only the chief minister alone sounds ‘mengampu’ (to ingratiate). There is no place in GPS for opportunists and traitors. GPS and the people out there are not stupid, we can read between the lines.”
