KUCHING: Fifty-four out of 81 applications for second hand dealer licence have been approved by the Kuching Police District headquarters (IPD Kuching).

This was revealed by Kuching Police District chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai at a press conference held at IPD Kuching at Jalan Simpang Tiga here, yesterday.

“We have implemented it (Second Hand Dealers Act, 1964) fully and will have investigations and operations.

“At the same time, we urge members of the public to cooperate with us by being our eyes and ears.

“If they believe the second-hand goods being sold are stolen, then please come and tell us,” appealed Abang Ahmad.

The Act calls for all second-hand dealers in Kuching to be legally registered or licensed with the police to sell second-hand goods.

This is to ensure that all second-hand goods dealers will conduct their businesses legitimately.

It is also to also prevent the sale of stolen goods as it is considered an offence to be in possession of such items while at the same time, allowing the police to monitor their actions.

“Anyone who knows of those going against the Act may contact us or the nearest police station.

“Callers who call in with information will have their identities protected,” he promised.

Anyone with any information can call the hotline number at (082) 241 133 or report to any police officer or police station.

Earlier, IPD Kuching held its monthly assembly which also saw a demonstration by the Light Strike Force (LSF) team in the preparation for the upcoming general election.

The LSF team’s main objective is controlling the crowd during situations that threaten public safety.
