GEDONG: The state government will ensure that more development projects will be implemented in Gedong, Simunjan and Samarahan areas.
These projects will be carried out under the Samarahan Integrated Development Agency (ISDA).
“Under this agency, I want to change the development approach in Samarahan, Simunjan up to Sebuyau,” said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari during at Pesta Gedong here today.
The chief minister, therefore, announced an allocation of RM50 million for building Gedong Bridge to Lubuk Bunting.
He said the project which is expected to be completed in two years’ time would facilitate travel from Gedong to Kuching.
“Last week I also approved RM500 million for the construction of seawall in this area to stop salt water from adversely affecting agriculture here,” he said.
He added that RM1.5 billion has also been approved to upgrade Samarahan area within two years.
“That was why I purposely set up three agencies under the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda), namely, Upper Rajang Development Agency (Urda), Highland Development Agency (HDA), and Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).
“And also with ISDA, there will be more focused development projects in Samarahan, Simunjan, Asajaya, and Sebuyau, including upper Rajang, the highlands, and the northern region of Sarawak will be planned and laid out,” he said.
Sarawak, he pointed out, is vast and thus the need to set up the agencies so that each development under them would be more systematic.
The chief minister said when the times come “don’t say that Abang Jo talks only, but doesn’t carry out his work”.
“All these take time lah … including the Gedong Bridge,” he said.
Also present at the festival were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, E-Commerce Assistant Minister Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, and Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
