The all white theme of the recent Eid Into Style Runway Trend Show held on April 23 in Kuching provided an elegant backdrop to a spectacular runway show.
Organised by the Fashion & Lifestyle Entrepreneurs Association (FLSEA) led by renowned Sarawak based designer Anna Sue, the event also showcased a record breaking runway show, where 10 designers combined came up with more than 100 designs on one runway.
The designers included Anna Sue, Ben Nazry, Fatehah, Gavroche, Ihara, Qalandra, Sofia With Ben Nazry, Kait & Nasha as well as Sarawak born international guest designer, Natrah Macpherson from Embun. Besides fashion, the event also featured product presentations by Borneoskin and Marissa Ramsay (Razz Cakes).
According to Anna, who is also FLSEA chairwoman, Sarawak has many young talents just waiting to be exposed.
“That is why the objective of the newly formed FLSEA is to increase the visibility of emerging and established local fashion and lifestyle entrepreneurs by providing them opportunities to expand and display their works at any possible platform,” she said.
The concept of the fashion show is very universal and versatile, and the word Eid in the title was brought forward from last year’s “Eid Fashion Launch”.
“So even though this is the volume II version of the fashion showcase, this time our programme is targetted to a larger market and audience.
The concept of the show this year is not restricted to fashion for Raya only but for all occassion,” said Anna.
She added that the Eid Into Style runway show is proof that Sarawak has many talented designers that can be on par with international designers. Thus, she urged the Sarawak government to support local designers to showcase their designs in the international arena.
In her speech after launching the Eid into style: Runway Trend Show, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing said: “Sarawak is not short of talented people. We need more platforms like this to showcase emerging designers to the forefront.”
Fatimah added that Sarawak’s diversed ethnicity can be an inspiration for designers to create something unique and exotic.
