KUCHING: A total of RM105,000 was raised at the Sri Satok Community-based Rehabilitation Centre’s (PDK) charity concert for the building fund of its new premises.
The ‘We Can Do It’ concert, the first biggest charity concert for the handicapped in the state, was held at the old State Legislative Assembly building in Petra Jaya on Friday night.
Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg managed to raise RM97,000 with two songs at the concert.
The concert also saw a performance by Sri Satok staff and trainees to entertain the guests, together with invited artistes Harris Mukhriz and Abdul Halim Hisamudin, and also a special guest, the Chief Minister’s granddaughter Nazya Badea, who rendered three songs.
Last year, the state government approved RM500,000 for the project to build a new premises for Sri Satok PDK and a piece of land located near Kampung Patingan in Satok state constituency.
The new Sri Satok PDK premises is specifically designed to accommodate people with special needs and it will be the first of its kind in the state.
Also present were the Chief Minister’s wife Datin Amar Dato Hajah Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing, Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, Assistant Minister for Early Childhood Education and Family Development, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Tupong State Assemblyman, Fazruddin Abdul Rahman and other distinguished guests.
