KUCHING: Puspakom said yesterday it was not involved in the sale of the reflective stickers.
“We only provide space at several of our inspection outlets to 3M Malaysia and Orafol Reflective Solutions which carry out the sales. This provision has been done for the convenience of vehicle owners,” it said in a statement yesterday.
“It is also incorrect that Puspakom is an approving authority for reflective stickers.
“Puspakom only inspects vehicles to see that the stickers comply with those specified by the JPJ which must meet SIRIM MS 828: 2011 standard.
“At this time, only the reflective stickers manufactured and distributed by 3M Malaysia
and Orafol Reflective Solutions meet the standard and have SIRIM approval.”
“Puspakom is not involved in the distribution and sale of such reflective stickers and has no influence over prices. These are set by the distributors and retailers concerned and Puspakom receives no commission on any sales.
“Vehicle owners should not fear that their vehicles will not pass inspection if they do not purchase the approved reflective stickers at Puspakom outlets.
“The public can purchase the items at other outlets that the distributor may have. Failure will only result if the reflective stickers used are not the approved types and are not correctly placed.
“JPJ made it compulsory for commercial vehicles (with a laden weight of 3,500 kgs or more) to instal reflective stickers from 1 January, 2017. Buses are required to have such strips from 1 July, 2017.
“In order to ensure that the reflective stickers are of high quality and provide the required reflectivity, SIRIM has created a Malaysian standard MS 828:2011 which the stickers must meet.
“There are also requirements regarding the size and placement of the reflective stickers around the vehicle. These guidelines can be obtained at the www.puspakom.com.my,” it added.
