KUCHING: Kuching Polytechnic is proud of its achievements in innovation project competitions both at state and national level.

Its deputy director (academic) Chow Tio Kiong said this showed the students’ projects were of high quality and that their inventions had the potential to be commercialised.

He added that the polytechnic had increased its participation in innovation researches both at the national and international levels and had won a gold medal and two bronze medals at the P&P Innovation Competition at the 5th Teaching and Learning Innovation Carnival held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia from Jan 22-24 this year.

At the Malaysian Technology Expo (MTE2018) competition held from Feb 21 to 23 at PWTC, Kuala Lumpur, one of the two Kuching Polytechnic’s innovations won a gold medal, while at the Borneo Innovation Festival (BIF2018) organised by Mukah Polytechnic from March 9-10, it won eight gold, four silver and seven bronze medals.

Besides that, the polytechnic also won one gold medal, two silver and one bronze at the Innovation and Invention Competition Through Exhibition (iCompEX’19) held in Kedah from March 19-21 this year.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Kuching Polytechnic Project and Innovation Festival near here today, Chow added the festival was held every semester and that it aimed to inspire innovations and creativity among its participants.

He said as part of the teaching and learning process at Malaysian Polytechnics, students had to showcase their inventions and innovations to the public.

They were also encouraged to produce new innovations continuously.

Of the more than 200 projects by students and lecturers of Kuching Polytechnic which took part in the competition, 44 projects from the students and 22 by the lecturers qualified for the final today.
