KUCHING: Acting on public complaints, a 6.5-foot male crocodile that has been seen lurking in the Sarawak River near the Floating Mosque at the Kuching Waterfront was caught by Sarawak Forestry Corporation’s (SFC) Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) yesterday.
“In this operation scheduled for five days (April 1 to 5), we managed to catch one crocodile measuring at about two metres in length after three days of operation. It has since been transferred to Matang Wildlife Centre,” said SFC in a statement issued yesterday.
SFC Sdn Bhd’s chief executive officer Zolkipli Mohamad Aton said the operation was carried out as Kuching Waterfront was one of the Crocodile Removal Zones and thus should be free of the reptiles in ensuring the safety of the public.
The team caught a break when one of the seven baited hooks and lines finally snared the crocodile.
Members of the public are reminded to notify the nearest SFC offices of crocodile sightings in their areas and not take matters into their own hands as these reptiles are dangerous.
