SARIKEI: The development of the coastal roads will continue to be the main agenda under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) introduced by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as part of its initiative to boost the income of the rural people.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the roads would also boost the state’s economic sectors, especially agriculture and fisheries, which were the main sources of income for the people.
“These coastal roads will allow them to have better lives and improve connectivity between the rural and urban areas.
“The strength of the state lies with the rural people, and therefore they must be assisted,” he said when officiating at the earth breaking ceremony of Batang Rajang Bridge and the road from Sungai Pasi, Sarikei to Jalan Sibu – Tanjung Manis yesterday.
Abang Johari added that the government’s decision to propose a major allocation for the 2019 State Budget was to ensure that more development could be implemented.
The allocation, he said, also focused on rural development to complement the basic needs of the people such as roads, clean water and electricity.
“Under the leadership of GPS, the Sarawak government is always working to ensure that the facilities can be fairly enjoyed by all the people. The GPS leaders is not liars. If they say they are doing something, they’ll do it,” he said.
Abang Johari also assured that the government would continue its digital economy development agenda to ensure that Sarawakians were not left behind in the new era.
“The construction of related infrastructure will continue to be in line with the goal of making Sarawak a developed state by the year 2030.
“Sarawak’s Digital Economy Development continues to bridge the digital divide between Sarawak and more developed regions in Malaysia.
“At the same time, we will also build 300 telecommunications towers this year to increase the level of Internet access and speed across Sarawak including Sarikei,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
