SEMATAN: Deputy Commissioner of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (Maca) Datuk Idris Zaharudin said yesterday that the academy had taught the villagers at Telok Melano here to watch out for human trafficking.
Speaking to reporters after the closing ceremony of a three-day Enhancing Integrity Programme (EIP) yesterday, he added, “Telok Melano could be one of the tourist attractions in future after the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway which starts from here. Therefore, the community here need to know how to protect themselves as they are living near the border.”
The programme, participated by four villages from April 5, was organised by the academy and involved 44 of its certified integrity officers.
During the programme, the villagers were also taught how to preserve the heritage of Telok Melano.
Idris pointed out that as more tourists visited Telok Melano in future, the villagers would be able to increase their incomes.
Also present at the closing ceremony were Water Supply Assistant Minister Datuk Liwan Lagang, director of the EIP project Tazudin Mohtar and the village chief of Kampung Telok Melano Hamizan Hasan.
