BINTANGOR: Prevention and awareness programmes on drug abuse need to be strengthened at the early stage, said Corporate Affairs Assistant Minister Abdullah Saidol.
“Good values must be practiced and act as a shield against various social problems faced by today’s society,” he said during the closing ceremony of Drug Prevention Programme at SK Abang Amin here recently.
He added that in order to curb drug abuse, it was important to identify the cause of the problem.
“We cannot deny that one of the reasons
for drug abuse begins at home.
“The parents’ way of guidance… and smoking can also be seen as the root of the problem,” he pointed out.
Abdullah, who is also Semop assemblyman, called upon relevant agencies to conduct more “engagement” programmes and recreational activities in villages to be able to build a better society that is healthy, stable, united and ethical.
“Unity and understanding are also part of an important culture that need to be maintained regardless of political difference.
“Remember, we all have the responsibility to save the young generation from drug abuse and other social problems,” he said. – UKAS
