KUCHING: The Rotary Club of Kuching Central (RCKC) last Sunday raised about RM120,000 from its 3rd Rotary Charity Run held at CityONE Megamall here.
The run was flagged off at 6.30am from the CityONE main entrance by Batang Sadong Member of Parliament Datuk Sri Nancy Shukri and Rotary International District 3310 governor Henry Tan.
They were accompanied by RCKC president Jong Kiam Ngee, organising chairperson Leonard Sia and main sponsor, Kenbest managing director Stephen Long.
The run was divided into three categories, namely 2km, 5km and 10km.
A total of 1600 participants registered for the run this year. Each received a race pack, and a finisher medal upon completion of the run. The top 20 runners from the 10km male and 10km female categories were awarded prize money which amounted to RM4,800 in total, sponsored by district first lady Ellen Tan.
The club will use proceeds from the run to fund its community projects.
Projects that the club had completed included clean water and sanitation projects for longhouses and rural schools, solar lighting for isolated longhouses, back-to-school kits for rural students, sponsoring operations for children with congenital heart disease and food parcels for the needy.
The club also partnered with the Health Ministry to carry out extensive cataract remedy operations over the past eight years and is continuing to do so.
