KUCHING: A paved road leading to SMK St Luke canteen is in danger of collapsing completely anytime, said DAP Sri Aman chairman Leon Jimat Donald after he visited the school recently.
He said in a statement that he had a dialogue with the teachers and asked about the problems faced by the students, and he was shown the road between a boarding house and the canteen.
After checking the road, Leon said it was indeed posing a danger to the students as the pavement can collapse at any time. The slope down from the road is a 20-metre drop to a store house below.
The teachers said that they reported the matter nearly two years ago to JKR Sri Aman but nothing has been done.
“I wish to reiterate to JKR Sri Aman to please repair this pavement by building a gabion wall to stop the soil erosion and collapse,” said Leon.
“There should not be any excuse anymore. Don’t say there is no budget for it.
“The poor teachers had put up a metal fence of sort along the broken road to prevent students from falling down the slope.
“Do we have to have a serious injury or worse before JKR Sri Aman take action?”
