DEBAK: “Program Penambahbaikan Rumah Miskin Sarawak” (PPRMS) beneficiaries have praised the Sarawak government’s initiative to repair and rebuild the homes of the poor and said it should be extended and continued in the future.
One of the recipients Isah Omar, 55, admitted that the assistance was very helpful to her and her husband, Peter Nen.
“I am grateful to be chosen as one of the PPRMS recipients.
“I am very happy with the work of the contractor who has been appointed to repair the worn-out roof of my house,” she said when met at an event with Saribas assemblyman Mohammad Razi Sitam and members of the State Implementation Monitoring Unit (SIMU) near Kampung Babu here yesterday.
“A total of 50 houses including longhouses in Saribas benefited under the first phase of the project which cost RM500,000.
“PPRMS is a state government initiative to assist the poor in Sarawak after the federal government discontinued the initiative.
“I am confident that PPRMS will help reduce the burden of the poor. It also demonstrates the continued commitment of the Sarawak government to help the needy,” said Razi.
In his 2019 Budget speech, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said RM72 million would be set aside for PPRMS and that each assemblyman would be receiving RM1 million.
