KUCHING: Through the years, the Ford Ranger has evolved from a purely utilitarian workhorse to a versatile and premium
lifestyle vehicle with cabin comfort and features of a passenger vehicle.
One thing however remains unchanged – how this progressive embodiment of ‘Built Ford Tough’ inspires kinship and bond-building among owners.
Ranger Club Owners throughout the world have come together to form clubs, where its
members are constantly on-the-go seeking opportunities to give back to the community while embracing the ‘Ranger Lifestyle’ as a group.
In Malaysia, it is the same as evidenced by the various activities and events that Ranger club owners have organised and participated in.
Case in point, is the 4X4 Sarawak Jamboree, the biggest Ford Ranger annual gathering in Sarawak.
Flagging off from Sibu and ending in Kapit over a duration of four days, the Ranger owners were part of a 175-vehicle convoy of off-roaders participating in the jamboree, journeying through a previously unopened track to Kapit.
Until about two years ago, Kapit was only accessible by river and vehicles had to be barged in and driven only in town.
While Kapit is now better connected via a track that is even tarred in some sections, the jamboree took participants through an adventure route that included visits to the Iban tribes in Kanowit, Song and Kapit.
Here, the club had the chance to immerse in the Iban culture and engage with the indigenous community, including contributing back to society through a ‘gotong-royong’ clean-up of Kanowit town.
Throughout the jamboree, participants experienced serious adrenalin pumping off-roading action through rugged untarred timber tracks, one of which had even been abandoned for two years.
Along the way, there were also several small tributaries, which could only be traversed on flimsy log frontier bridges.
Participating Ford Ranger Club owners also got to build stronger bonds with each other while engaging in the camaraderie other like-minded adventure seekers through various adventurous activities such as fishing and hunting, as well as delicious barbecues and fun hours in front of the campfire.
The club’s activities truly encapsulates the spirit of living and breathing the ‘Ranger Lifestyle’. From having a safe and comfortable ride for everyday commute, to a tough and capable truck for exploring the great outdoors while reaching out to remote communities, almost anything is possible with this ‘Build Ford Tough’ truck.
