KUCHING: A policeman was charged in the Special Corruption Court here yesterday with corruption.
Zuliskandar Zolkeflee, 39, who is attached to Motorcycle Patrol Unit of the Kuching District Police Headquarters, pleaded not guilty before Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong to a charge under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act, 2009 and punishable under the Section 24 of the same Act.
The Section carries an imprisonment term of carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received or RM10,000, or whichever is higher, upon conviction.
The charge accuses him of accepting bribe of RM250 from one Awang Ridzuan Matysan as an inducement not to take any action against one Ahmad Nazree Azizi Zamri, for allegedly not having a driving license and one Mohammad Zulhaffizan Noor, for allegedly involved in drug abuse.
He allegedly committed the offence at a restaurant at Jalan Kerunding at about 6.05pm on 6 September last year.
The court set 29 March for pre-trial case management and 17 to 21 April for hearing of the case.
The court also released the accused on bail of RM8,000 with two local sureties.
MACC prosecuting officer, Ikwan Mohd Ibrahim appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
