KUALA LUMPUR: Skipper Muhammad Hadin Azman led by example with a superb late solo goal to inspire Felda United to a 2-1 win over Selangor in the third round of the 2019 FA Cup at the Shah Alam Stadium on Tuesday night.
The former national player took off from the centre of the field and slalomed his way past four Selangor players to score the
winning goal in the 88th minute and take The Fighters, as Felda United are known, into the
quarter-finals.
Five-time FA Cup record winners Selangor, who last lifted it in 2009, had earlier opened accounts through rising youngster Muhammad Syahmi Safari in the 55thh minute, but Felda United drew level nine minutes later through a Thiago Junio header.
In another third round match, 2015 winners Kedah marched into the last eight after beating PJ City FC 2-0 at the Darul Aman Stadium.
Kedah took an early second minute lead through Brazilian import Renan da Silva Alves before national skipper Muhammad Zaquan Adha Abd Radzak doubled the score to confirm the Red Eagles’ place in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Terengganu FC and Kuala Lumpur also joined Felda United and Kedah in the last eight.
Terengganu FC bounced back from a goal down to sink Kelantan United 3-1 at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium.
Kelantan United went ahead through Muhammad Rozaimi Azwar Mat Noor after just nine minutes before Terengganu FC struck through Sanjar Shaakhmedov (50th minute), Tchetchet Kipre (53rd) and Lee Tuck (72nd).
At the City Stadium, Penang failed to capitalise on home ground advantage and went down 2-4 to Kuala Lumpur.
The City Boys scored through Zaiful Abdul Hakim (third minute), Muhammad Irfan Zakaria (14th) and Guilherme De Paula (35th, 64th) while Penang replied through Ndumba Makeche (48th) and Sivanesan Shanmugam (79th). – Bernama
