KUCHING : SMK Matang Jaya emerged as overall champions when they dominated in all categories in the Kuching Division Inter-School Kabaddi Championship held at SMK Matang Jaya at Jalan Matang, here from April 16 to 17.
A total of 19 teams from six schools took part in the tournament which was jointly organised by the Sarawak Kabaddi Association and Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) as part of the programme to uncover new talents to undergo training for the Sukma 2020 programme.
Among the schools taking part were SMK Tunaz, SMK Sejingkat, SMK Green, SMK St Theresa, SMK Semariang Baru and SMK Matang Jaya.
SSC CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee who was impressed with the response from the schools pledged continued support from SSC towards such competitions financially or in the form of providing assistance.
Ong said the Sarawak kabbadi team have been one of the best teams in the country and hoped they will carry on with their activities to promote the sport in the state.
