KUCHING: UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) launched the all-new Toyota Yaris nationwide yesterday. The all-new Toyota Yaris is available in three variants – Yaris 1.5G, Yaris 1.5E and Yaris 1.5J.

In Sarawak, the new Yaris 1.5G is priced at RM87,400 while the 1.5E is selling at RM80,400 and 1.5J at RM74,400.

The car will be available in 5 colour options; Citrus Mica Metallic, Super White II, Red Mica Metallic, Attitude Black and Silver Metallic.

The new Toyota Yaris comes with the 2NR-FE 1.5-litre engine, a proven 4-cylinder DOHC power plant with Dual VVT-i.

All variants come with a 7-speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic transmission. This has a manual mode to allow the driver to make selections of the 7 speeds in the CVT for quicker response. A Drive Mode Switch allows the driver to prioritise fuel efficiency or stronger performance.

The new Yaris has been evaluated by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asia (Asean NCAP) with the maximum of 5 stars. This rating applies to all variants as they have the main Active and Passive Safety features that are required by Asean NCAP for the maximum rating.

Other than that, owners of the new Yaris can enjoy motoring with the full 5 years warranty. There is no limitation on mileage travelled after original registration so the owner gets the full 5 years of coverage.

According to UMW Toyota Motor president Ravindran K, the last hatchback model of Toyota Yaris was sold between 2006 until 2012 which was a CBU from Japan and was competitively priced.

“There were more than 1,000 units of the Yaris sold at that time,” he said.

He further stated, “Consumer preferences has changed. We now see that many customers, especially from the younger generation like the hatchbacks because they represent a sportier image.

“Looking at the trend, we decided to reintroduce the Yaris to our model line-up which will be UMWT’s first Completely Knocked Down (CKD) hatchback produced at our new Bukit Raja manufacturing plant.”

He further stated that this new addition to the Toyota range also demonstrates the company’s support towards the government’s aspiration for better localisation in vehicle production.

The model is the second vehicle, after the all-new Toyota Vios, to come from UMWT’s new assembly plant at Bukit Raja in Klang, Selangor.
